In 2017, by order of the Ministry of Culture of the Russian Federation, the Fashion and Design Center was established in the Museum as a strategic platform for supporting and promoting Russian Design, co-operation with professional community and developing contemporary skills in Creative Industries.
Among the key initiatives of the Center is the organization of the All-Russian Contest-Biennale "Designed and Made in Russia" which identifies and promotes talented authors whose works form Design Heritage of the 21st century. Based on the results of the Contest, the Jury determines objects for further research and admission to the museum collection. Today, the fund collection of Product Design includes 200 items, of which 26 items have received the status of historical and cultural value.
On the initiative of the All-Russian Decorative Art Museum, the Expert Council for Creative Industries was formed and united well-known experts in Fashion, Design, ESG and other fields of Creative Economy to start new projects. It promotes the Museum activities in business sector, educational and public institutions.
Museum has also become the first cultural institution to represent Creative Industries on the Expert Council for Sustainable Development of the Russian Ecological Operator, which provides new opportunities for promoting the strategic role of design in the green transformation of economy.
In order to develop Design Diplomacy, the All-Russian Decorative Art Museum launches special projects with the participation of experts from the CIS countries, Middle East, India, China, Southeast Asia, Latin America and South Africa. As part of this direction, the Museum has formed the Fashion and Design Committee under the Association "Business Center for Economic Development of the CIS".
