The program features ancient handicrafts and techniques that used to be practiced mostly by women. In the museum halls, the participants of the program will see exhibited traditional female costumes of different Russian provinces, as well as specimens of needlework, lace, gold embroidery, a weaving mill and painted spinning wheels, will learn about the symbolism of the colors and ornaments in the costume. In the interactive space, the “grandma’s chest” will reveal its riches, and the museum patrons will be able to examine a bride’s trousseau, try on a sarafan (a sort of pinafore dress) and a shirt made of homespun linen, and will attempt to spin tow. In the workshop, the program participants will complete a creative assignment.

The program is adapted for the visitors:

/ who are deaf or acoustically challenged (the program can be presented for groups accompanied by a sign language interpreter)

/ with special needs

The entrance tickets to the museum for persons with first- or second-degree disabilities or a disabled child and one accompanying person are included in the price of the program.
