EXCURSION "FOLK ART CRAFTS OF RUSSIA"

26 october – 20 march

In the twentieth century, the revival and development of folk arts and crafts - Vologda lace, Gzhel, Khokhloma, Krasnoye Selo and other centres – became a large-scale state programme dedicated to the preservation of the national cultural heritage and its actualisation in modern art and everyday life.

During the excursion we will travel to the most famous centres of art crafts. We will see how the efforts of leading art historians, artists and craftsmen themselves preserved and developed the amazing mastery of material and style unique and recognisable to every tradition. The joint work of people of science and art in the twentieth century led to the highest rise in the development of each craft . We will see the works of Kholmogorsk carved bone, Vologda lace, lacquer miniatures of Palekh and Fedoskino, which have repeatedly received major awards at the World Exhibitions in Paris, New York and Brussels. We will see a vast geography of arts and crafts - from Moscow region to Yakutia, and a gallery of names and personalities of those professionals, whose contribution to the folk arts and crafts has helped them become a part of the world history of art and remain a source of inspiration for modern artists and designers.
