06 december – 09 february

Our museum is opening an exhibition dedicated to clothing and jewelry from the era of creative experiments of the Soviet intelligentsia - the 1960-1980s.

Our museum opens an exhibition devoted to clothes and jewellery of the era of creative experiments of the Soviet intelligentsia - 1960-1980s.

The exhibition presents models of women's clothing and non-mass-produced jewellery that appeared in the USSR. For the first time in many years fashion designers and jewellers are officially recognised as artists. All these artists - fashion designers and jewellers - who had access to information about the latest Western fashion trends, found themselves in search of an actual language of free art, based on the newly awakened interest in the ritual luxury of the sacred: in Russian folk tradition, in ancient Byzantium, in the ‘purified life’ avant-garde, in the ceremonial East.

Even if they did not know each other, the authors shared the same emotional and intellectual mood of the epoch, often found similar solutions, strikingly echoing each other, as if discovering the same images for the ‘new person’, non-mundane forms of his visual communication in a social space where human being is a living jewel, arousing intellectual admiration and sensual response. This exhibition is dedicated to the results of these creative experiments, the depth of the epoch's ideas, the search for new beauty and the place of man in the world.

In the halls of the museum you will see are the works of jewellery innovators - Vladimir Afanasyev, Nina Belyakova, Inessa Beshentseva, Sergei Budanov, Natalia Gattenberger, Boris Gladkov, Zinaida Zenkova, Vladimir Zotov, Lyudmila Leontieva, Oleg Orkin, Yuta Paas-Alexandrova, Vera Povolotskaya, Leokadia Podlubnaya, Lazar Portnoy, Yuri Saveliev, R. Safarova, Maria Tone, Ivan Shedov. Those works are placed in free associations next to the works of such iconic fashion designers as Vyacheslav Zaitsev, Alla Levashova, Tatiana Osmerkina, Tamara Sanchez, Lina Telegina, Elena Ivanova, Lyubov Kulikova, Valentina Kuprina.
