Art as a testimony to the feat! The All-Russian Decorative Art Museum opens an exhibition of lacquer miniatures dedicated to the feat of the Soviet people during the Great Patriotic War.

The exposition presents masterpieces of Russian art of lacquer miniature created during the war years. These are not just works of art, but true testimonies of the epoch. During the war the artists, along with the whole nation, went through the most difficult trials: they went to the front as volunteers, worked in the rear, and in 1943, despite all the difficulties, resumed the craft of lacquer miniature painting in order to preserve the unique art for future generations. In each work of the master one can see hope, faith, admiration for the feat of their compatriots, love and support.

The exhibition will also feature contemporary works inspired by the legacy of the war years. These works are created by artists who draw inspiration from the resilience and courage of their predecessors, continuing the tradition of lacquer miniatures in the new times.

The exhibition is divided into eight thematic sections, each reveals different aspects of wartime: from heroic battles to lyrical moments, from the partisan movement to the unity of front and rear.

Artists of Russian lacquer miniature centres have created a real encyclopedia of the Great Patriotic War: from the tragic ‘Moscow Region. 1941’ G.I. Larishev to the solemn ‘Hymn of the Soviet Union’ by K.V. Kosterin, ‘Salute’ by A.A. Tolstoy and ‘Victory of the Soviet Army’ by L.M. Zhivnostok. The works inspired by war songs are of particular value - ‘In the Dugout’, ‘Letter from the Front’, as well as works reflecting optimism and faith in victory - ‘Planes are Flying’ by V.D. Antonov.

The exhibition demonstrates the ‘living’ memory of the war, the deepest reverence and awe for the feat of our great ancestors, filling with determination to defend the freedom of our Fatherland today.
