17 may – 10 august
To the 80th anniversary of the Victory in the Great Patriotic War, the All-Russian Decorative Art Museum presents the exhibition “Bogatyr of the Russian Land...” - a large-scale project dedicated to the image of the defender of the native land. 350 unique exhibits from the museum's holdings, private collections and partner organizations will show how the traditional bogatyr from Russian bylinas is embodied in warrior-defenders of different epochs.
Bone and wood carving, ceramics, embroidery, art metal, author's glass, porcelain, toys, paintings and graphics - the exhibition impresses with the variety of techniques and subtlety of execution. The authors' imagination knows no bounds when revealing the theme. Among the exhibits: chess-giants, carved from bone with jeweler's precision; lacquer miniatures, depicting scenes of legendary battles; picturesque subjects by Viktor Vasnetsov, Nikolai Roerich, Ivan Bilibin; sculptures by Evgeny Lansere, subjects of the great novel “War and Peace” on magnificent porcelain, carved works by Vladimir Sokolov, panel-batik “Confrontation”, in which the shadows of Napoleon and Kutuzov play out their drama on silk.
The exhibition is a game for children and a world of memories for adults.
“Bogatyr of the Russian land...” is created, first of all, for children who will bring their parents with them. In the interactive zones our little guests will have a new experience:
· Passing through the Russian oven, they will gain the power of their native land;
· Solving tricky riddles, they will learn folk wisdom;
· They will test their wit, courage and friendship;
· Become part of history, weaving themselves into the bogatyr tradition.
“Adults at this exhibition will remember their childhood,” says Elena Titova, director of the All-Russian Decorative Art Museum. - We want parents to become equal partners in the game with their children, to immerse themselves in a new fairy tale or historical stories, to see how the most important symbols of our country live in arts and crafts”.
