YUSUPOVS' LIFE-BUILDING POLICY: RECONSTRUCTIING THE OLD AND CONSTRUCTING THE NEW

25 may / 13:00

The turn of the XIXth and XXth centuries was a time of change for the Yusupov family, accompanied by grandiose reconstruction projects of the main city and country residences, as well as the construction of new architectural ensembles. The aesthetic predilections of Zinaida Nikolayevna, the main initiator and ideological inspirer of all the transformations, demonstrated an appeal of different styles and were based on the preserved family heritage, which was characterised by rare diversity: from the classicist palace in Arkhangelskoye to the Russian chambers in Moscow. The careful attitude to the old and sensitive perception of the new, inherited by the son, Felix, and realised in his own apartments, constitute an invaluable experience of Silver Age interior practice, adequate to the challenges of today.
