GUIDED TOURS OF THE EXHIBITION "IN THE NAME OF CRAFTS. ART CRAFTS OF RUSSIA. NAMES OF THE XX CENTURY"

In the twentieth century, the revival and development of folk arts and crafts - Vologda lace, Gzhel, Khokhloma, Krasnoye Selo and other centres - became a large-scale state programme for the preservation of the national cultural heritage and its actualisation in modern art and everyday life.

During the excursion we will travel to the most famous centres of art crafts and will see how the efforts of leading art historians, artists and craftsmen themselves helped preserve and develop the amazing mastery of material and style tradition, which makes each craft unique and recognisable. The joint work of people of science and art in the twentieth century led to the highest rise in the development of each craft. At the exhibition we will see works of Kholmogorsk carved bone, Vologda lace, lacquer miniatures of Palekh and Fedoskino, which have repeatedly received major awards at the World Exhibitions in Paris, New York and Brussels. A vast geography of art crafts from Moscow region to Yakutia will unfold before us, a gallery of names, the personalities of the professionals, who made folk art crafts become part of the world art history and remain a source of inspiration for modern artists and designers.
