FROM VOLOGDA TO KURSK. ART TEXTILE

26 october – 20 october

Embroidery, lace, carpet weaving, needle weaving - only one thread, skilfully tucked by a craftswoman into a weaving loom, a needle, wound on a thin bobbin, has given birth to all kinds of techniques in the field of art textiles. The names of lace patterns ("bells", "pearl", "bear's paw"), embroidery techniques («painting-stitch», «chain stitch», «stitch-by-letter” ), patterns on carpets and printed shawls – all those tell us that we are dealing with a special language of ancient artistic tradition, where weaving a canvas or a carpet, embroidering an ornament is the same as wishing for prosperity by either "writing" it in "white on white" or by weaving it as a bright bouquet of roses. We will visit different regions of Russia, see the lace ligature of Vologda and Yeletsk crafts, style polyphony of embroidery centres, feel the warmth of Dagestan and Kursk carpets, pass through the flower gallery of the famous Pavlov Posad shawls. Having returned from the "expedition" to the workshop, armed with the acquired knowledge, the participants of the programme will develop their own author's project and its product.
