LECTURE BY ULYANA PODKORYTOVA "CONTEMPORARY ART IN SEARCH OF NEW FOLKLORE"

23 may / 19:00

Ulyana Podkorytova will tell how research in the field of folklore and anthropology helps the artist to talk about modernity and actualize traditional folk images and meanings.

The artist will talk about her experience of the “plein air work” in the Russian village, about her own theory of "cosism" and characters of her personal mythology – her super-heroine Gertrude Svirepa (Gertrude the Raging), about her native Abramtsevo - the birthplace of neo-Russian style, as well as about how contemporary authors work with the heritage of folk culture in Russia and the world.

Lecturer: Ulyana Podkorytova, a graduate of the Polygraphic Institute and the Rodchenko School, works as a graphic and performance artist, creates multimedia projects, makes videos, sings and makes ceramics.
