We invite you to a tour round the flagship exhibition of the All-Russian Decorative Art Museum – “Chic, Shine, Khokhloma”!
For the first time, the museum presents its unique collection of Khokhloma crafts – from XIX century "rural luxury" items and original works from the avant-garde era to exhibition and printed examples from the Soviet era and contemporary design pieces. Tour participants will learn about the technology of "golden" Khokhloma and the unique features of grass-painting, which brought the craft worldwide fame and its status as a symbol of national culture. The visitors will see the finest and sometimes astonishing works of Khokhloma craftsmen—ladles and bowls shaped like dragons or goldfish, amphora vases, and decorative panels. They will learn which XX-century researchers and craftsmen played a leading role in preserving the unique Khokhloma style and how today's craft artists and leading designers envision the future of Khokhloma.
