08 december
The excursion is devoted to the traditions of Christmas celebration in a noble mansion of the XVIII-beginning of the XIX century, in the brilliant epoch of classicism and Empire. The participants will be transported to the era of Ivan Andreyevich Osterman, the owner of the mansion where the museum is now located, and will learn how it they used to decorate the drawing room for Christmas, what dance used to open the Christmas ball, what items of glass or precious porcelain made up the decoration of the festive table.
Antique exhibits collected in the exposition ‘Decorative and Applied Arts of Russia XVIII - the first third of the XIX century’ will tell you about the quiet, leisurely life of the Russian manor, about winter holidays and evenings spent in reading, games, music, fine needlework - and, of course, about the high art of craftsmen - ceramists and glaziers, bone carvers and foundry workers - who decorated the luxurious interiors of the palaces of the ‘golden age’ of the Russian nobility with their products.
